C.S. LEWIS QUOTE

C.S. Lewis once wrote “In reading great literature, I become a thousand men and yet remain myself”.  This quote can mean many different things.  One meaning could be that he puts himself in the mind of the character he is reading about.  Another meaning could be that he plays all the characters of the story in his mind.  It depends on how you look at his quote.
When I read a book I like to act as if I am the main character.  I have trouble staying focused when reading books or stories that I do not get to pick out.  By putting yourself in the story it helps you to stay focused and on task.  It also helps you remember information that you might not have.  There are many other ways to stay focused.
Another way I think that Lewis could be talking about is when the reader puts himself as the author or all characters.  When you put yourself as all characters it is often easier to predict what will happen next.  You can’t let your mind stray too far away otherwise you will be off track.  This method would not be a good decision for people with adhd.
The one thing that you really have to watch for is getting off subject.  I have a hard time staying on track when I am reading.  I multitask a lot, but when I am reading I have to sit down and focus on just that.  Focusing on one thing is really hard for me.  I have to take notes to be able to pay attention.
